Why You Need an Interpreter

The world is a very big place. With language barriers, it can feel like an even bigger one. Imagine how much more you might explore if you could communicate with people in different parts of the world! That’s where interpreters come in. Interpreters are professionals who translate languages for individuals and groups of people to connect with others and live more fulfilling lives.

They help bridge the gap between cultures by providing an understanding through interpretation services customized to fit your personal or professional needs. There’s no better way to understand someone than by listening to them speak their own words in their voice, which is why interpreters provide this invaluable service every day.

What is an interpreter, and what do they do

An interpreter is a person who conveys or translates spoken or written messages from one language into another language. They are also known as translators, liaison officers, conference interpreters, oral translators, and/or sworn translators. Ultimately, an interpreter facilitates conversation between two people-and sometimes more-by acting as a bridge in both directions. Interpreters are trained to understand the source language being spoken and speak the target language fluently to provide accurate interpretation services.

What kinds of interpreting services does an interpreter offer?

Interpreters work in various settings, including schools, hospitals, government agencies, universities, businesses, courts, legal proceedings, and more. Singapore interpreting services provide interpretation services for many different languages, including but not limited to American Sign Language (ASL), Cantonese, Dutch, Farsi, German, Hindi, Italian, Mandarin Chinese, Punjabi, and Spanish. There are two types of interpreting:

  • Simultaneous Interpreting-In which the interpreter sits in on the conversation and immediately interprets what is being said. They rely on a headset to listen and relay information to an audience
  • Consecutive Interpreting-In which the interpreter waits until the speaker has finished before relaying their message in another language

Why do you need an interpreter?

We live in a very big world, and it’s only getting bigger. Without interpreters, we would not be able to communicate with people in other parts of the world. We wouldn’t be able to understand different languages or cultures and become more globally aware citizens. Interpreting is necessary for everyday life-not just so you can travel internationally but also so you can communicate with others in your very own community.

  • Think of the times when you have had to interact with someone who speaks another language-a doctor, a store clerk, a government official or employee, friend, family member…the list goes on and on. Wouldn’t it be easier if you could just understand what they were saying?
  • This is where an interpreter would help you connect with others and live a more fulfilling life. Interpreters provide the best way to communicate so all parties involved can have their ideas heard, feelings understood, and needs meeting. They serve as a bridge between cultures so people from different backgrounds can interact naturally and comfortably.
  • And wouldn’t it be nice to have someone take down notes for you when you’re in a meeting, so you don’t miss anything? You could even request that the notes are given to you in your preferred language. When it comes to communication, interpreters can help.
